Kameha Grand Zurich, Autograph Collection - Zurich

I stayed in this property in 2015 (end of summer). I enjoyed my stay in this modern hotel. Few key things
  • Property is not in central Zurich, it is a little of the main city. There is public transportation available to main city but I had a car so it was not an issue. Finding the parking in the city was not difficult either.
  • The property is in newer part of Zurich so there are not very many restaurants nearby it, however one Italian restaurant across
  • Finding free parking was easy. The hotel charges for parking but there is plenty of free parking available next to hotel.  It was suggested by hotel staff, I think the staff parked there as well.
  • Staff was very helpful and friendly.
  • Internet was included for free.
  • The biggest issue I have, while traveling abroad, is finding power adapters to charge phones. This plane had the power adapters and charges that were available for free.
I will recommend this hotel if you are transiting through Zurich but if you are going to stay for few days and would like to enjoy the city then this hotel might not be for you. It was a lot cheaper than the Marriott in main city. Personally, I felt that hotel was a little away from the city action and considering the price difference, I will prefer Kameha Grand Zurich

Other notes:

I did not eat in the restaurant in the hotel (I generally don't eat in hotel restaurants unless my meal is included with the stay).
I was with my wife and 7 year old kid.

Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport Marriott Hotel Review

I stayed in this hotel in Sept. 2014.  I got this hotel from my Mariott points.

The hotel is very close to the airport. Since we just needed a place to stay for few hours before our flight to US, this was an ideal location.  We arrived there around 7:00, after checking in our room we drove to a nearby Aeorville Shoppingg Mall. There is supposed to be a shuttle from the hotel to the airport but the timing was not working for us and we still had our rental car so decided to drive.

The mall was closed but there were a lot of restaurants there were open, including an Indian Restaurant (my favorite).  I highly recommend checking out this mall if you are going to stay in this hotel or any hotel nearby.

When we arrived in our room around 10:00, we found out that our room was very hot and was not cooling. Turns out the AC was broken and even though they tired to fix it, it did not work. All this took about 2 hours to sort and it was already midnight.  They offered us another room, that was supposed to be an upgrade.  Not sure what the "upgrade" was because we did not find anything "upgraded" about that room.  Well we were able to sleep for about 5 hours and then rushed to airport for our flight at 9:00.

All in all, nice hotel, nice location but our experience was not so great.  I will give this hotel another try when I am back there.

AC Hotel Nice France by Marriott Review

I stayed there late Aug , early September of 2014.

Pros:

  • Good location
  • Nice hotel
  • Friendly staff - English speaking
  • Roof top swimming pool - though it was little chilly in early Sept.
  • Easy walk to the beach and restaurants
Cons:
  • Could not find a power converter. They told me that they used to have it for free but now they wanted to sell me for 12.99 euro.
  • Small room - very expensive but Nice is generally expensive.
  • Internet charges in room is expensive.
  • Car parking is expensive and even though they advertise free valet parking, the valet staff was gone when I needed them.  "Free Valet Parking" did not mean "free", it just meant that you have to pay for parking and valet service is free.

Other Tidbits about Nice:

1. Restaurants generally require you to buy same number or more dishes as the number of people in your party.  We had our 5 yr. old kid and we were required to buy a dish for him as well even though there was enough food in two dishes for all three of us to share.
2. Some restaurants will charge you service fee and the also ask for Tip (at least one restaurant did that to us) .  Though locals do not pay any tips as, unlike US, the servers there are paid good wages.
